Contactless Payment

Convenience and speed for secure payment transactions

Markets on the move
More and more markets are adopting contactless technology and millions of contactless cards have been issued around the globe. Consumers and merchants have experienced the benefits in speed and convenience as well as reliability of contactless devices. Especially in the transport / ticketing and payment markets contactless cards have proven their advantages in numerous implementations.

Growing business
Major roll-outs as well as smaller projects have shown that contactless cards have a positive effect on revenue and transaction frequency thus growing business for all members of the ecosystem ranging from card issuers to merchants. Early adopters will be able to attract new customers, for existing customers the transaction frequency is likely to increase. Card holders simply love to pay in a fast and convenient way.

Reducing cost
The speed of contactless transactions increases the throughput by decreasing checkout times. Fast transactions together with less cash handling enable merchants to improve their overall efficiency and lower operational cost. Also contactless terminals are less subject to vandalism for example in an unattended environment - there is no card slot that could be made unusable.

Replacing cash
Part of the additional revenue can be attributed to contactless payments being targeted at low value transactions and thus replacing what traditionally have been cash payments. Consumers are attracted by the convenience and ease of use - just tapping a card is preferred over fumbling with bills and coins when paying for the sandwich or newspaper.
